| AWAKENING INQUIRY: Observing and Recording Nature, Lesson Plans for Grades K-8. Dvornich, Peterson, Clarkson. This creative approach to inquiry learning weaves three parallel approaches to nature awareness into a step-by-step guide for the classroom and schoolyard. Designed to prepare students for field research projects, these approaches are derived from activities developed by the Nature Mapping Foundation whose focus is on developing patterns of behavior that lead to lifelong inquiry and problem-solving. Awakening Inquiry engages students' passions, so that they, almost without being aware of it, begin practicing learning habits that help them learn and later recall images and information from the field. The lessons in Awakening Inquiry are organized sequentially, beginning with basic naturalist skills such as the use of journals and field guides and progressing to more advanced skills such as estimating populations and analyzing data. This spiral-bound book also includes strategies for student assessment, lesson plan extensions, and lists of additional resources, as well as a CD containing the photographs and graphics needed to complete the lessons. #EE-19254.
