BIRD EGG SIGNATURE DISPLAY (Animal Signatures® Clue Display).

ITEM #: T-22044
PRICE: $29.95

Resource Description
BIRD EGG SIGNATURE DISPLAY (Animal Signatures® Clue Display). Acorn Naturalists. Just as we learn to identify the handwriting of others, we can learn to read signatures left by wildlife. This unique 6” x 8” glass-topped display provides real examples of these animal clues from wild areas and even parks and school grounds. With this display, students learn how to determine if egg shells seen on the ground are from hatched birds or the result of egg predation. Infertile eggs are from domestic quail and turkey. Ages 9–adult. #T-22044.

Mix or match any 10 Animal Signatures® Displays to receive 10% off!

Additional information: (quoted from the label on the back of the display)

"If you come upon bird egg shells in the wild, observe their condition carefully. A successful hatch, as seen in the quail eggs on the left side of the display, typically leaves large segments of the egg shell intact. If a predator has raided and destroyed the nest, things are more chaotic, as demonstrated by pieces of turkey eggs on the right. The eggshells here are crushed, a few pieces of feather are present, and a telltale yellow yolk stain is apparent. Snakes, skunks, foxes, opossum, and snapping turtles are all known to consume bird eggs. The tracks surrounding a ground nest raid may also offer clues."
