Italian mathematician, Fibonacci, published a book in 1202 that told of the discovery of a fascinating number sequence often seen in nature (0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34, and so on) where the sum of any two numbers in the sequence equals the next number. This kit explores this sequence using pine cones, and discusses the relevance of it along with suggestions for further student investigations. Perfect way to integrate biology with math in a fun, hands-on way! This kit contains six 3-5 inch female pine cones that demonstrate Fibonacci sequences, a selection of small male pollen cones in a magnifying observation box, a young pine branch which also shows Fibonacci spirals, and the Fibonacci Activity Guide containing information on pine cone botany along with instructions, additional Fibonacci-related activities, glossary of terms and related internet links.
