Covers and Sachels for Holding Field Guides
In this section you will find a selection of durable field packs for carrying your guides. Satchels and field bags are available in a variety of sizes, styles and colors.

  Fandex Guides
Children love these die-cut guides. Fandex guides are colorful, easy to manipulate, and cover a wide range of birds, butterflies, wildflowers and trees found in North America.

  Golden Guides
This is the introductory field guide series that has inspired millions of individuals to explore nature. Revised and updated many times during the past fifty years, these guides are a fine place for explorations to begin. We offer the latest editions of all of the guides in this series.

  Golden Field Guides
The Golden Field Guides are more comprehensive than the introductory Golden Guides. In clear, well illustrated, easy to understand terms, these guides describe common North American birds, reptiles, rocks, seashells, trees and wildflowers.

Identifying Birds, Amphibians and Insects by Sound
Birds and other animals are often obscured by their surroundings. It is common to hear many more species than are ever seen. The same is true for frogs, toads and insects. This section contains a diverse selection of tapes and CDs to help identify the sounds of nature, both in the daytime and at night.

  Kaufman Field Guides
These popular guides now include superb field guides on birds, mammals, butterflies, and other insects.

  Keychain Field Guides, Laminated
Each of these guides consists of a series of waterproof plastic cards held together with a ball chain. Each card measures 1-1/4 inches by 4 inches and is made from very thick, durable laminated plastic. Cards fan out for easy identification, allowing for side by side comparisons of similar species. Back side of each card contains interesting facts and ruler marks as appropriate. Perfect for the backpack or glove compartment.

  Lone Pine Regional Tracking Guides
Lone Pine Publishing produces these superb regional guides. Each contains concise descriptions of regional tracks, combining detailed drawings of the front and back prints, stride patterns and other key identifying features. Over fifty of the most common animals appear in each guide. Perfect for hikers, teachers, parents as well as a reference for children. Lightweight and compact (4-1/4” x 5-3/4”), they fit easily into your pocket or pack.

  Mac's Laminated Field Guides
Each laminated field guide features over 100 common plants and animals on a 7" x 11" laminated, weatherproof card. Handy to slide into your pack or bring into the field. Drop in the mud, no problem. Color drawings allow for easy identification.

  National Audubon Society Field Guides
This series nicely complements other field guides, featuring full-color glossy photographs that arrange animals by similar appearance rather than by strict family grouping. This system is particularly useful when identifying birds in the field, where several unrelated species can appear to be closely related to each other.

  National Audubon Society Pocket Guides
Each of the National Audubon Society Pocket Guides is illustrated with 80 full page color photographs. Convenient 4" x 6" size slips easily into pocket or backpack. Guides discuss topics such as identification features, range, habitat, and breeding plumage when appropriate. Because of their compact size, these guides are a favorite with hikers and backpackers.

National Audubon Society Regional Field Guides
These field guides provide readers with a compact yet comprehensive guide to the natural features found in each region or state. Whether you are at home or on the road, these field guides provide you with a fine introduction to the region’s common wildflowers, trees, invertebrates, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals, geology, fossils, weather, ecology and even the night skies. Each is illustrated with hundreds of photographs, drawings and maps, and each includes an extensive listing of places of exceptional natural beauty.

  National Geographic Field Guides
Includes field guides on a range of topics, all supplemented with beautiful graphics and descriptive text.

  Nature Finder Guides
Nature Finder Guides are very compact (4" x 6") lightweight (2 ounces) and reasonably priced natural history guides which utilize a simple key system to identify common plants and animals. Twenty-two different guides are available.

  Birds of North America DVD
DVD features all five volumes of the Audubon Society's Video Guide to the Birds of North America. This is the most comprehensive DVD available on North American species. Two DVD set (which contains all of the material found in the five volume video series).

  Other Field Guides
In this section you will find a wide range of specialty field guides written by different experts in the field.

Peterson Field Guides - Standard Editions
For more than 50 years, the Peterson Field Guides have set the standard for field guide excellence. The unique Peterson identification system is widely respected for its ease of use and accuracy. This is one of the most complete series of field guides in the world, and every title in print is carried. All are bound with a tough, lightweight composition paper cover.

Peterson Field Guides for Young Naturalists
This beginner series features the original art of Roger Tory Peterson. These guides incorporate both color photographs and line drawings with key field marks along with complete descriptions of each species’ habitat, food preferences, behaviors and songs. Designed to give young naturalists immediate success on their first natural history trip. Ages 7-12.

  Peterson First Guides
As the title suggests, these are the first field guides a beginning naturalist might use. Simplified versions of the famous Peterson Field Guides, the First Guides focus on the animals, plants and natural features you are most likely to encounter in the field. They make it easy to get started in the use of field guides and easy to graduate to the regular Peterson Field Guides.

  Peterson Flash Guides
Each of these guides consists of 24 panels that fold out like a map (only more easily)! Each guide describes approximately 100 different species, including difficult to identify juveniles. Extremely durable, waterproof, lightweight and easy to carry 4-1/2” x 8-1/2” size. Choose the Flash Guide that best fits the area you are visiting.

  Pocket Naturalist Laminated Field Guides
Lightweight, laminated, waterproof format makes these guides perfect for the field. Guides are designed for beginners, and information is presented logically based on what the viewer is most likely to observe. Compact 4” x 8” size opens out to 8” x 22”. Color pictures and information are located on both sides of the card. Perfect introductory guides for all ages and abilities.

  Reader's Digest Field Guides
This series includes four books – one offers a general, broad-brush overview of North American plants and animals, another focuses on mammals, reptiles and amphibians while the other two review trees and birds. These guides bridge a gap between the introductory field guides such as Golden Guides or Peterson First Guides and the more advanced guides that focus closely on particular groups of animals.

  Sibley Field Guides
David Sibley has taken the birding world by storm with his comprehensive guides. Designed to be accessible to all, these guides have fast become the standard reference point for birders at all levels.

  Simon and Schuster Field Guides
It seems as though everyone has their favorite field guide - one that suits their needs best. The Simon and Schuster series is known for its spectacular color plates, classification tables, easy to use visual key system and discussions of interesting facts and features of the highlighted plants, animals, rocks or fossils. Each provides a valuable addition to a naturalist’s bookshelf.

  Stokes Nature Guides
Stokes Guides are known for their comprehensive approach to nature study, emphasizing animal behavior, ecology, habitat, and life cycle. Stokes Guides add a storyline to your hikes or presentations, making them much more than just a "name that animal" program. Authors are prolific nature writers and wildlife watchers who, when not in the field, are updating their field guides or creating new ones.

Uncommon Guide To Field Guide Series
This field guide series goes beyond identification to acquaint readers with animal habits, antics, attitudes and behaviors. The creatures described are commonly found in the northwest - what makes this series uncommon is that the author spends several pages on each, giving the reader an in-depth awareness of how each animal lives and how each fits into the bigger picture.

  University of California Field Guides
Both classic (reprints) and new guides have recently been issued by the University of California to help both beginning and advanced naturalists identify and understand the diverse flora and fauna of California. Each of these field guides contains a wealth of information along with beautiful color photographs that document the different species in their native habitats. Guides are compact (4-1/2” x 7-1/4”) with durable covers for use in the field.
