Resource Description
LAND SNAIL PREDATION SIGNATURE DISPLAY (Animal Signatures® Clue Display) Acorn Naturalists. Just as we learn to identify the handwriting of others, we can learn to read signatures left by wildlife. This unique 6” x 8” glass-topped display provides real examples of these animal clues from wild areas and even parks and school grounds. With this display, students learn that these protein-rich land snails are eaten by many animals. Birds and mammals leave distinctive signatures behind when eating snails; this display shows how to tell them apart. All samples have been hand collected. Ages 9–adult. #T-22049.

Mix or match any 10 Animal Signatures® Displays to receive 10% off!

Additional information: (quoted from the label on the back of the display)

"Land snails are consumed by a wide variety of wildlife. When eating a snail, a roadrunner will peck at the shell with its bill and pull the snail out. In general, birds eat snails by pecking through the center of the spiral, leaving half of the shell intact. However, others, like the Everglades Kite, neatly scoop out the foot of the snail. Foxes, skunks and coyotes also will eat snails. They tend to be messy, often crunching down the entire snail, and then spitting out (or defecating) the indigestible remains. This display shows crunched shells alongside a replica of fox scat."
