| OCEANS OF LIFE: An Educator’s Guide to Marine Biodiversity. World Wildlife Fund. As many species live in the oceans as on land, yet we’ve only come to know a sampling of the myriad marine species alive today. Over 95 percent of the ocean remains unexplored. In this comprehensive Windows on the Wild module, middle school students learn about marine biodiversity, why it’s important, why it’s at risk, and what we can do to protect it. The module begins with informative background information on marine biodiversity, followed by five engaging units. The main portion of the guide takes a case study approach and includes background information on the topic, four to five related activities, and an action component. Case studies include sharks, salmon, shrimp, alien species, and coral reefs. Appendices offer a framework, summaries of case studies, and marine legislation, planning charts, a glossary, a bibliography, and the Joy to the Fishes poster. Grades 6-9. #EE-11287.
