Resource Description
PLANT PARASITES DISPLAY: The Lore, Legend and Botany of Mistletoe. This unique display discusses the fascinating lore and botany surrounding this amazing plant. The origin of the name comes from old English and translates into dung stick, somewhat defying the usual romantic lore (mistletoe propagates via sticky seeds excreted in bird droppings that land on sticks, thus the origin of the name). This display features two specimens of mistletoe, sustainably harvested locally, dried and carefully mounted in a 8" x 12" glass-topped case. The display also features an engaging description of the lore, legends and botany of mistletoe. Furthermore, this one-of-a-kind display features a carefully prepared cross section of the area where the mistletoe grows into its host, clearly showing the haustoria, the small mistletoe roots that grow into host branch to extract minerals, water and nutrition. #T-21235.
