| SACRED ELEPHANT, Read by Heathcote Williams. This is poet, playwright, and actor Heathcote Williams' moving portrayal of the world's largest land-living mammal. This extended fifteen-part poem explores the life of elephants in their natural habitat and in captivity, and details their relentless destruction at the hands of humans. It was originally self-published on giant sheets of newsprint in text "large enough for elephants to read." Evocatively read by the author, with Caroline Webster and Harry Burton, the poem is accompanied by music from Ciurlionis, Brahms, Bruneau, Rubinstein, Saint-Saëns, and Mussorgsky. A second disc contains an audio documentary of elephant history and behavior, with segments on their evolution, intelligence, how they communicate, and their interaction with humans. 2 cassettes, 118 minutes total. #SPC-92.
