Pocahontas
Pocahontas provides insight into the personalities and realities surrounding the initial colonization of Jamestown in 1607 as gleaned directly from the journals and notes of John Smith and Pocohontas. Pocohontas, who was 11 in 1607, played a unique role in determining the destinies of both the Coatmen (as the natives called the colonizers) and the Powhatan community. She never married John Smith, and actually died in England while she was trying to gather support for a school for Powhatan children back in her homeland, known by then as the Virginia colony. A new look at an age old legend.
