Environmental Education Activities
Acorn Naturalists was organized by educators over thirty years ago to focus on: (1) Getting more children outdoors by equipping educators, naturalists, camp leaders, after school educators, and parents with the practical learning resources and (2) Promoting appreciation for and understanding of science, particularly as it relates to the natural world. We believe experiences that celebrate nature, enhance knowledge, and develop skills are essential building blocks for advancing literacy—the capacity to critically think about issues and make informed choices. Acorn Naturalists is directed today by the original founders who hold both teaching credentials and graduate degrees in education. They have years of practical teaching experience in both classroom and outdoor settings in addition to an understanding of contemporary educational theory and practice. Resources contained in Acorn Naturalists print catalog and website are selected with the above to areas of focus in mind.
