Oleander leaf (prepared microscope slide)
Oleander Leaf Cross-section (showing sunken stomata) Microscope Slide
This slide shows an overview and close up images of the sunken stomata that are found in desert plants and other plants that have reduced water needs, generally referred to as xerophytes. Stomata are the holes that exchange gases, but in some plants these are sunk in on the underside of the leaf to allow for gas exchange while minimizing the release of water vapor, which xerophytic plants need to conserve.
